Growing up, winter was one of my favorite times of the year. Not only could we be outside and play but we’d come in and make hot chocolate, we’d do puzzles and play games.
And then there was Christmas. Mom and Dad always did really well at keeping the excitement for us – going to community Christmas parties, going to see Santa Claus on a haywagon go through town, having a stocking and a gift waiting for us at 4:00 a.m. on Christmas morning (because we had to see what Santa brought), Mom getting up to start the turkey at 5:00 a.m. so we could eat about 2:00 p.m., and always family…

Winter and Christmas were always about family. I truly wished I had taken the time to ask Mom and Dad about their childhood Christmases. I didn’t and now I can’t. I truly don’t know what they used to do as children.
